We have gotten several requests for campsites, as well. Here is a link to some local campgrounds in Jefferson County, so that gives you some options.

The C&O Canal Nat's Historical Park has several hiker/biker no fee campgrounds (no reservations), and one drive in campground on the C&O Canal, which would be super close, and is a very popular location. The drive in campground is located at Antietam Creek (located at mile 69, approx); and it is $10 a night. No shower facilities, but they are nice sites, with bathroom facilities and a water pump. It is very close to Shepherdstown. 301-739-4200. The hiker/biker campgrounds close by would be:

  • Mile 62.9 Huckleberry Hill
  • Mile 75.2 Killiansburg Cave
  • Mile 79.2 Horseshoe Bend

We strongly advise you to call the park headquarters with any questions BEFORE you come out , and to make sure you are comfortable with the arrangements!

There are a variety of restaurants available in the German Street area of Shepherdstown, including a bakery, coffee shop, Thai/sushi, Italian, fine dining, a British Pub, and vegetarian friendly restaurants.
